The hobby – Making Youtube videos even if it’ll take me months to make one

Get a hobby. Have an adventure

Saw that quote on Google. I seem to have this fascination in capturing and editing video clips for the past few years. I am aware that it is not really Hollywood material but it is calming (to me) as I immerse myself in the long hours of trimming clips and adding audios to the media. Right now I am trying my hands on Video.Guru, a free app available on Play Store.

Video.Guru was easy to use for a newbie like myself. There is also plenty of Free To Use audios in the app. I did not have to worry about copyright. It took me a while to collect my clips but I felt it was worth it in the end. There is of course always room for improvement. I watched more videos on Youtube than making them. Bingeing mostly on BTS videos, haagrendal, hamimommy and jihyunkkung. Here is my Youtube channel by the way.

I love making the type of vlog where I don’t really show my face. Somehow it is called silent vlogs? It’s not really that silent. I seem to enjoy these kind of videos especially from Japan and South Korea. Most of them are videos of homebodies, moms who love to clean, cafe owners, florists etc. I don’t fancy the ones where they chat a lot on camera. So far, I have only followed one Malaysian vlogger who adopts this type of video called asykalx. A young man in college with a neat room. However, upon searching ‘silent vlogs malaysia’ – it seems that there’s quite a number of aesthetic, calm Malaysian vloggers enjoy making videos in this category. I wish success to all and will follow them one by one.

Why am I celebrating them?

It’s because once upon a time, I watched a video from this very popular influencer and he said that to create interests, vloggers shouldn’t produce something movie-like or something viewers can watch on TV. One should be boisterous on Youtube. I couldn’t help rolling my eyes when I heard that and was thinking, “eh, sukatilah org tu nak vlog gaya canne.. tak sumerang suka cakap banyak2”. Indeed, it was one of my monologues.

Unlike the more focused and professional vloggers, I take more time to produce one video due to work commitments. That is not a good recipe if you’re aiming to generate an income. But of course that is the least of my concern right now. I just want to experiment and see what I could do with my Samsung phone, sometimes the camera and the free app.

My initial target was to make 10 Youtube videos in 1 year.

Unfortunately due to Covid19, I couldn’t make at least 5.

Nevertheless video editing is a great hobby.

I loved it and hope to expand on my skills in producing Youtube videos.

Reading just became cool again. Thanks to our education minister, Dr Maszlee malik. Netizens are sharing what they’re reading, only that the choice of books are mostly the same. Within my circle that is. Maybe it is because we borrow books from one another. Ha ha ha.

Almost all my friends has Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist on their favourites list.  It would be interesting to see other mind-opening books you know. But yeah, those who love Mr Coelho’s book – ain’t he great?

Because of the hashtag, I have picked up my momentum in reading again. This time using the Google Playbook platform as well. It makes me look less like a nerd when I read on my phone. Friends would think I’m scrolling on Instagram when in fact I have my nose in a digital book like a modern Belle of Beauty and the Beast.

So if you’re an avid reader, a bookworm as your alter ego – do drop me a comment down below regarding good books I should read. It can be fiction, parenting books, skills book , management stuff, psychology things, history even.. or language related. As long as its a title that makes you feel awesome, happy or enlightened when you recommend them to me.

Share your good book title.

Me Time starts now ..

I rested my sachet of Peppermint tea in a Spongebob mug containing hot boiling water. While waiting for it to brew properly – I performed my ablution in preparation for my Isya prayers.

I wore my mint green telekung which I bought from Indonesia. I faced the Qiblat and made my niat. I raised my arms for the Takbiratul Ihram “Allahu Akbar”and  recited Iftitah, surah Al Fatihah and another short surah. I made sure my spoken words were at a pace which was slow and clear to my ears, I stood up straight till I could feel my back stretch and I pulled back my shoulders just so I could feel the relief of the spasms of the muscles down my spine in between my scapula.

Then I  Ruku’. A perfect 45 degrees bow facing the floor with both feet firmly to the ground. The back of my hamstrings were probably thankful for such actions – I felt like wanting to be in that position longer than usual.

Next was Sujud or prostration. I imagined all the blood flowing to secret areas of my brain as I placed my forehead touched the ground. I kept my back straight as I sit in between the double prostrations. During Tahiyat, I stretched my feet and back enduring that mild ache yet relief to the already exhausted body. Then it was time to give Salam – a head turn to the right and then to the left. The solat ended. Alhamdulilah.

I could really relate to this article: Why Mothers Stay Up Late. Hence most of my blog posts are usually drafted in the night. Or daytime when Mr Husband and my son is not around and I happened to be on Night Shift. Even 60 mins ‘me time’ is sufficient in a day. And what better way to spend it well on the perfect prayer.

My brew is ready. Sipping peppermint tea in my sanctuary, my happy place. My corner of kawaii stuff.

Oh I wonder, what do you enjoy doing in your ‘Me Time’??

The Haul from ShopeeMY… with a bit of melalut stuff in the beginning

If I’m not taking any leave or going for holidays, that means I’ll not be out and about spending my hard earned salary that much. It also means I’ll be coveting over stuff online. Which in turn means more online purchases and more poslaju parcels arriving at my workplace. It’s almost always my parcel that comes through. And they’re not the typical thing a career woman buys like baju or tudung. They’re kawaii stationaries.

Not that I’m a studious person. Like oh my goodness.. ko beli bebanyak memo pad buat apa kan? or the occasional odd questions like – what do you use these pens or paper clips for? or tape ni utk apa? saja tampal mulut ko.

Well.. most of them I use for my journalling. Yes, I’m back to that hobby. The internet.. Facebook especially has become a very harsh place to put down your little thoughts. Because everything you say apparently has got something to do with one of your friends. Walhal.. sometimes I’m talking about a situation that resurfaced in my memory which took place probably many months ago. And it’s not about you – you egocentric perasan pompuan..

Blogs are not that safe either but the exposure is less. If the issue is too sensitive – I’ll just private my post and invite certain people to read it. Or if its damn classified, wait till I die then ask our Malaysian Special Force to hack it. Journals are best. If I really hate someone, I can just print out their face from a photo in FB, stick it in my journal and doodle ugliness on it. Something like voodoo but no needles involved. Or washitape them like mummies of the past.

ANYWAY, this was supposed to be a haul post. See how I melalut. ShopeeMY has this free shipping thing going on still on their site. Of course, I took the opportunity to restock my stack of washi and memo pads. I did more exploring and decided on 2 other stores selling these cute stuff.

LOOTERSBOX

My favourite item from this haul is the Superman Slim Tape and the Farm Animals. I loved how LootersBox included a free sample of Washi Tape. Knowing myself – if I happen to like the sample/freebie there is a high chance I’ll be returning to the shop to buy more. Not only for the Superman tape but also for those scissors slim tape because I love sending off parcels and cards too. It makes a good seal.

LITTLEZAKKA

My favourite items are the travel sticky pad set and the panda memo set. I was obviously excited and grateful as I noticed a cute freebie collar bookmark in the package as well. I had been surveying other online stores in ShopeeMY for better deals but I find LittleZakka offers the best price for them memo pads. I will definitely keep them on my watch list.

So don’t wait and hesitate. Head over to ShopeeMY now.

Malaysia Clay Art – making my own brooch

I had no idea shops like Malaysian Clay Art exist right here on our very soil of Malaysia until a few months ago. I enrolled myself in a 3 hour class by an independent tutor (meaning she doesn’t work or speak for Malaysian Clay Art) who taught us how to make figurines out of polymer clay. This was something new to me as I’ve never been exposed to such medium before.

We were taught to create for instance Baymax using basic shapes which was for me really interesting. After the class, I was hungry for more hands on mini sculpting especially when my clay teacher told us how we can make our own magnets, brooch and pin shawls with them. In less than 24 hours, I turned into a #hantuhandmade entity. LOL

I bought my starters kit from the website. I chose its No 1 Best Seller Polymer Clay Set B worth RM55.00. It comes in a box containing 24 different colours of clay with free tools and selected accessories. I thought it was a good investment to get the ball rolling.

It seems that they were also selling other forms of clay such as the air dry clay, cream clay and even soap clay. The website had abundant information on how to  use these products on top of the many videos you could watch when it comes to being creative.

So far, I have made these Gemilang Brooch which I gave to my teacher as a gift. It definitely needs a bit more refining and improvement to give it a polished touch. Perhaps I can buy the glaze during my next online shopping trip to the site. The clay was easy to use and it doesn’t leave significant stains on your fingers – very easy to wash off.

Here’s a few Pokeball brooch to show the world that I’m a trainer as well. TEAM INSTINCT GUYS!!

I also made these mini envelope magnets to hold down important notes on the fridge.

I have also been experimenting with googly eyes for my Mr Tomato charm.

My next projects would include making my own hijab pins. 😛

So if you’re keen to pick up a new hobby, do keep this form of activity in mind. It’s very fulfilling to see your own creations made from scratch. Orders can be placed at their website and they could be contacted via Facebook too. Have fun!
