🧕 doTERRA Malaysia : I did the 125PV for December

Simply because the promotions are oh.. so… seductive and tempting. Hence, I piled up my purchases up to 125PV under the Loyalty Reward Programme (LRP).

I wanted to set up the LRP template because over time, I can get discounts up to 30% for my oils. In the early days of using and exploring the benefits of the oils, even if I do not wish to enroll anybody in the beginning, I already have at least a 10% discount first for the first 3 months upon enrollment.

I just need to make sure I have 1PV point each month on the LRP to keep my account active and have my priviledges as an advocate. This is important to note because I believe there will be times when I’m just on a tight budget.

If I manage to keep a 100PV per month, I am eligible for a commission. That is if I enrol someone under me.

A purchase of 125PV gets me the Product of the Month (POM) for free.

The LRP is processed on the same date each month of your choosing. You can either have the items shipped to the respective address at a flat postage fee of RM15. Or you can collect the items at headquarters in Eco City. Once you have received your goodies, do revise the items list and adjust according to what you need the following month. If not, the same items will be despatched to your address in the next scheduled postage.

So for December, my shopping cart is full with Lemongrass, Tangerine, Rosemary and part of the Verâge Face Line – Face wash, toner and moisturiser.

125PV = nearly RM500.

Wah. makan rumput.

Mohon plolesssss..

🧕 doTERRA : My citrus selection

I ordered 5 types of oils, mostly in the citrus category in my November LRP.

The popular Wild Orange, Bergamot, Grapefruit, Lime and Litsea. Well, Litsea or may chang is actually a shrub but has a lemon-y smell.

The oils do have an overview on what they are in the Malaysian doTERRA website. It is however very brief and I am sure any well meaning advocate would want to learn more about their oils right? So if the oils are truly what they are, it would not be wrong to say, Google Search ‘Lemon” and read the many , hopefully trustable sites regarding the compounds in Lemon. And how it can add that extra value in our lives.

On another note, reading up on these things are important for me as a medical doctor because you know how in adverts of products, they would put a disclaimer like ‘consult your doctor first” sort of thing. Well, most of my colleagues would be very quick to say ‘nope. don’t’ template answer. However, in my limited experience working as a doctor, I find that patients still go ahead with their intended choices anyway. And their health would deteriorate when there is an inevitable interaction between these substances of natural and modern medicine. So perhaps the best thing that I could do is to read up, learn stuff, see if I can assimilate certain practices or try to achieve the middle road where we give and take with the patient on some routines or practices.

Natural stuff can be poison if it is not consumed or used in a proper manner. Just like modern medicine. Which is why we have regular appointments to assess and adjust medications accordingly and monitor progress or presence of side effects through blood investigation or technical modalities. We cannot for now, measure effectiveness or monitor adverse outcomes of these natural products. The  best we  have are testimonies/ word of mouth. Therefore it is very important to try and practice what is safe. Boleh share benefit tapi jangan terlalu excited. What may work for Person A may not work for Person B.

Example, a person with a BP of 140/90 may not require treatment yet and can benefit from regular monitoring and if they like, safe use of essential oil. But you cannot advocate the same for someone who has a baseline BP of 200/120, tell them to stop their meds and use the oils only. It would tarnish doTERRA’s good reputation. If as advocates, we start making hyperbola claims then we are no different from those selling fishy products and sponsor a show for example. An advocate would know where the limitations are. doTERRA has clearly mentioned in their manual,

No Curative or Drug Claims

Back to the point of this post. So far, the basic information I gathered regarding citrus is that they;

  • are used best to energize and uplift the mood. They are also rich in both antioxidant and antibacterial properties
  • are photosensitive because of a compound called bergapten found in almost all these fruits. Hence, it is not wise to apply a citrus based oil on your skin and then sunbathe or go for a tan. Unless you want to be ikan masin.
  • apart from being diffused, they can be ingested. However, I must caution that users who intend to do so, must do them at their own discretion and AFTER reading up on what is safe and what is not. jangan diminum mcm air 100 plus plak.  Be Safe.

I also chanced upon in my reading regarding organic properties which are specific to certain citrus oils which I feel compelled to share for our own knowledge. I mean, most of the things I write here are available on the world wide web. I am just extracting these findings and documenting it here for my own references.

From pictures, we can say it is close to Limau Purut. Correct me if I am wrong. I bet you can imagine the aroma already. Tak lain tak tumpah gitew. Bergamot in doTERRA is harvested from Italy. In fact, doTERRA have the Global Botanic Network where they work with farms all over the world to help source their oils.

The Statin like property in bergamot was an interesting fact for me. It could be a useful point in assessing my patients with dyslipidaemia.

Grapefruit or the ‘forbidden fruit’ as it is known in Barbados is rich in Vitamin C. It boasts of having a low GI index hence suitable for diabetics, I guess. In our local setting, it looks like Limau Bali.

Interestingly, grapefruit has a compound called furanocoumarin compound in it which may affect the metabolism and clearance of drugs in our system.

As for the remaining oils, I have yet to find any significant compound that could influence a user in how they choose to use them.

Nowadays, I  use my citrus oils more in the diffuser and as a topical application.

Diffusing Lime as a single oil

Sometimes I make a blend. Peppermint & Wild orange is heavenly

I have been making my own Foot Rollerblends too. I buy the glass bottles through Shopee and mix doTERRA oils with carrier oils for safer application. I think I will elaborate more on that in my next post – on dilution and carrier oils. InsyaAllah

Acah2 blogger

Blogging used to be the IN thing. Now it’s the time of the InstaFemes or Youtubers. I am not quite sure if that is how I want the direction of my hobby to go.

I love writing. I like it when people make comments on what I write about. Which are mostly close friends in real life and those I love connecting to on social media. I am not so sure if I can handle blog readers by thousands like the more famous, colourful and outspoken ones.

patient perli kawan aku pun aku terasa kena cubit. apatah lagi kena maki if opinion tak sehaluan. kah kah kah.

I used to give one of these cards out a long time ago. It was something I designed WITH the help of the available templates on Photobook. Acah2 femes. pastu gelabah bila orang yang ko ngumpat jumpa blog kau. Terus private post.

But I missed moments of making new friends. Especially non medical friends which is why I think I got drawn into doTERRA. It’s another form of social adventure alongside being part of the butterfly blogger group.

Anyway, I have a social engagement this weekend. Organized by the group in collaboration with an F&B business. Kinda like a blogging assignment which I applied for.  LOL . If I do this right, I might just be able to reconnect with bloggers during ‘my time’ and forge new relationships. And perhaps get more fun assignments. Hihihi.

Cheers to a wonderful year. Gitew.

November Rain and my OSTs (again)

I made a short visit to my old littlehealer blog and chanced upon Ayumi Hamasaki Heaven song in it. I was immediately brought back in time to days I was watching the movie, Shinobi and a thing that occurred in the month of November.

November 2006, whilst in medical school was once a really really sad month from me. I got dumped by my then boyfriend of 6 months on a weekend just before the exams via Yahoo Messenger. Kejam kan? It was a long distance relationship. Him in Malaysia. I was in Manchester. Although he said the relationship has to end because the problem was with him and not me, he still managed to make a list of things which was wrong with me and how he thinks should be better. Itu khinzir namanya.

My life OST at the time was UNGU- Tercipta Untukku.

But I had really supportive housemates.

Despite the stress in facing the exams, they did not disregard my broken heart and together we indulged in activities to make Minci (pronounced Min-chee) feel better. Gradually I did and went on a dating spree before I met my husband.

Meaning in between my Ex and my husband, I dated men from different walks of life.  Some young, some older as in 20 years my senior, non muslim, old friends but most prospects never got past the 1st date. On rare occasions, 3 dates but that’s it. Source of prospects? Forum, blog hopping, chat rooms, workplace. But I did get into a somewhat longer relationship called Teman Tapi Mesra. Yup, that became an OST of my life as well. Not to forget, Azlan and Meet Uncle Hussain’s song Lagu Untukmu and Bad English – When I See You Smile.

I think my longest dating relationship was about 3 months with this guy I knew from my Orthopedic posting. We kind of like have an inkling that it’s not going to work out but I guess we were just curious to see how it’s like to date someone from a different religion and background where the only common language you can talk to each other is English. True enough, his expectations of a relationship is different from mine. The fling we had just faded. Fueled by his cheating charades of course. Ignore calls tetiba putus. No proper closure.

Still, being hati tisu – I was deeply affected. The breakup happened during my paedatrics posting. Tengah jaga NICU pulak tu. I got so overwhelmed with my emotions that one day after work, I did not change or go back home.. instead I checked into a nearby hotel with my oncall bag with whatever stuffs inside – adalah change of undies, telekung and toileteries and stayed there for a night. I think my telekung did not have a kain at the time – I had to be creative. Macam bodoh pun ada.

My Life OST at the time was Black Eyes Peas – Meet me halfway.

I spent the night in the hotel alone and the next day I went to work. With the outfit from the day before. I was in a bit of a mess but I think my colleagues kinda figured what’s up. Thankfully, work for that day was just till noon cause I badly needed to get out of my clothes. Rasa mcm kotor sgt. Tapi tgh berduka, otak mmg mereng skit.

Songs undeniably bring on certain memories. Like this one. Home by Buble. Everytime I listen to it – I will ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS have Rome in mind – a wonderful trip I had with my friends. Despite being lost in the city of Rome at the time, driving in circles – it is one of the good memories I keep returning to whenever I feel nostalgic or melancholic. In fact, a very specific memory – in the backseat of the car staring at the dark sky with stars, lost in my thoughts whilst my friends figure out how to actually get us back to the hotel. HA ha ha.
